Matrona Giakoumis, DPM is a fellowship-trained foot and ankle surgeon specializing in complex pediatric and adult foot and ankle reconstructive surgery, sports medicine, Charcot reconstruction and limb salvage.  A native of New York, Dr. Giakoumis obtained her undergraduate degree from Fordham University and completed her podiatric medical education at the New York College of Podiatric Medicine in NY. She underwent three years of extensive training in foot and ankle reconstruction in Atlanta, Georgia where she served as chief resident. She received additional training in pediatric and adult reconstructive surgery in the Emory healthcare system in Atlanta, Georgia where she completed her fellowship.  Dr. Giakoumis works hard to tailor each individual’s treatment and care to his or her specific needs, by practicing evidence based medicine. This helps ensure her patients get the most current and valuable treatments available. She has published several articles and papers, and is a faculty member and lecturer for the Podiatry Institute, an internationally recognized teaching foundation for reconstructive foot and ankle surgery.  Dr. Giakoumis also has a special interest in medical mission work and has worked overseas with Healing the Children (HTC).  She strives to be available to her patients and an advocate for their care and enjoys getting to know them.
